An artist who ended up in the newspaper business.

As a student, I focused on photography, graphic design, and painting. All three scratched different artistic itches and helped create a path into a professional career in media.

In 2016, I was hired to be a paginator at the Valdosta Daily Times in South Georgia. The job had one title, but I quickly became a social media guru, a staff photographer, a feature writer, a videographer, an award-winning editorial cartoonist, and a co-creator of a marketing campaign for online subscriptions. This lead to a promotion to Copy Desk Chief in 2019, which added the role of webmaster to my daily responsibilities, as well as leading a team of paginators for two daily newspapers, a weekly paper, and special editions.

After dabbling in everything from film editing to podcasts on top of my daily responsibilities, I moved on in 2020 to a copy editor role at The New York Times editing center in Gainesville, Florida. Soon after, I was moved to a cross desk position where I mostly worked with the photo desk and provided assistance as needed to design International Weekly editions.

As 2020 carried on to… well, be 2020, it became evident that if we were working from home, I wanted to be home. So I packed my bags and after 12 years in the South, returned to Iowa. Born and raised in a small farm town, it felt pretty good to be back in the Midwest for a season. While I’m glad I made the move back, by 2023, I was ready to move on. I found myself even closer to family by moving to Colorado (and living in a property owned by my brother and sister-in-law) and the mountains feel like home.

  • I have never met a cat that I didn't want to pet...

  • ...or an alligator I didn't want to hold.

  • (Or any other animal, if we are being honest.)

  • I once traveled to California solely to see One Direction.
